When in Doubt, Reverse the Polarity
HEROES OF THE BLOGOSPHERE #1: Wil Wheaton
I tried to get him to work at 32px by 32px, much smaller than I usually draw. I think he’s mostly recognizable. The “problem” with guys like Mr. Wil (who is not to be confused with a Wii) is that they do not have any weird features you can exaggerate!
This dude is SYMMETRICAL, which I guess is what all of us animals with spines and limbs are going for. I think the secret to drawing him is in how his pinch up a tiny bit when he smiles. I stare at people too much, huh?

I might do some other versions with little identifier icons on them. Watch this “space,” EL ROFL LOLZORS.
Who’s next?

you did a good job! mister wheaton is totally recognizable in tiny 32×32. I humbly suggest that you try out Neil Gaiman next. his blog is awesome, sometimes moreso than his other writing. He would also be kinda hard to caricature, except he has a lovely big nose.
the only other blogs i read regularly are made by faceless persons of mystery! like Waiter from waiterrant.net, or the Manolo’s Shoe Blog, or Twisty from I Blame the Patriarchy.
If you did enough of these I think they would make a fantastic set of buttons (assuming you got the okay from the bloggers to use their likenesses.) I could pin them to my bag and it would seriously boost my web 3.0 cred.

super small pixel art does it for me… now that I think of it I’ve got a DS comic strip I made in my spare time (not really original since it still has most of the original pixel art in it) that features REALLY small versions of clango, RR and uncle grandpa doing minor expressions and humor.

Warren Ellis. Then Warren Ellis’ Treo.
Then Spider Jerusalem.

Totally geeky. I love.

Very good work. And Wil’s impressed too!

Looks great!
I think Seth Godin would be fun to see pixelized. Put a nice highlight on that bald gourd of his. Along with his askew nose and large mouth.

This is cool; it’s like the lego version of Wil.
*I wonder what I would look like in lego?*

Superlative!
I’ll toss Scalzi and Dooce into the proverbial hat. Gibson would be pretty groovy too.

I second the vote for Warren Ellis. Now more than ever we need icons for Internet Jesus.

i love me some Wheaton, but if you’re going to be REALLY honest, there should be more than one chin…

[…] Seriously, is there anybody that gets cameoed as much as Wil? Off the top of my head, you’ve got Goats (both oblique and direct references), Overcompensating, a Rich Stevens sketchblog entry, Questionable Content (textual only), and Dork Tower (maybe a cheat since it was initially created for print). Add in another print comic reference here and one forthcoming here, and you have the beginnings of a movement. […]
